My first cultural painting

I-Land is the very first cultural painting I ever created, making it one of the most meaningful works in my collection.

As I was missing Haiti, I asked myself, "How can I feel closer to home?" The answer became this painting.

Growing up, I remembered seeing women walking with baskets of fresh fruit balanced on their heads—selling food, supporting their families, and filling the streets with life. Those memories became the heart of this piece.

The title I-Land carries two meanings. It represents the beautiful island of Haiti, but it also reminds me that one day I will land back home. After sixteen years apart, I dream of embracing my mother again.

This painting is more than art. It is a story of memory, hope, identity, and the unbreakable connection between a daughter and her homeland.
